Frequently Asked Questions

Our clients ask us a lot of questions.

What does Pen mean?

Higher Pen, softer binder

Refers to “penetration” and is a measure of the binder bitumen grade. Most of our macadams can be supplied with two binder grades, SMA in 50 or 85 Pen and most other materials in 125 or 190 Pen. The higher the Pen, the softer the binder.

What are Dayworks?

Per hour, from arrival

If you are hand laying and want the vehicle to remain on site as hot storage, you must pre-book dayworks. This is charged at a rate per hour and begins on arrival.
