Who is responsible for your information

Morris & Perry Limited is the data controller for the information you give us through this website. We are registered in England and Wales under company number 00718683; our registered office is Tout Quarry, Charlton Adam, Somerton, Somerset, TA11 7AN and our quarry and plants are at Gurney Slade Quarry, Gurney Slade, Somerset BA3 4TE.

If you want to ask us anything about your information, or to exercise one of the rights in clause 08, write to us at the quarry, email sales@morrisandperry.co.uk or telephone 01749 840 441, marking it for the attention of the person responsible for data protection.

This policy covers this website only. It does not cover what happens when you telephone us, visit the quarry or buy from us — though the same principle applies throughout: we ask for what we need to do the job, and we do not use it for anything else.

What we collect, and when

We collect information from you in five places on this website, and nowhere else. There is no account to open, no password, and no newsletter.

The enquiry form

On the delivery page, the contact page and the product pages. It asks for your name, company, contact number, email address, the product you want, the approximate tonnage, your town or area, your postcode and your message. The shorter form on the product pages asks for less. Everything on it is there because we need it to work out whether we can supply you, what it would cost and when we could deliver — the tonnage and the postcode do most of that work.

The chat panel

Whatever you type into it, and our replies. If you give your name, your telephone number or your email address in the conversation so that we can get back to you, we keep that with the conversation. The conversation is emailed to us when it finishes so that somebody here picks it up.

The photo estimate

The photograph you choose to send of where the material is going, and the depth you then tell us. The photograph is not stored by us unless you go on to send the enquiry, in which case it comes to us attached to it, so that whoever calls you back can see the job. Please do not photograph anything you would not want us to see — and remember a photograph of your property may show more than you intended.

The postcode checker on the delivery page

Only the postcode you type. It is looked up so we can show you where you sit in relation to the quarry, and it is not kept.

Our server records

Like every website, ours is reached over the internet, and the hosting records that keep it running and secure briefly include the address your request came from. See clause 05, which explains the one thing we do with it and why it is not kept.

Why we are allowed to hold it

The law requires us to have a lawful basis for using your information. Ours are:

Legitimate interestsAnswering your enquiry, quoting for the work, and keeping a record of what was asked and what we said. Our interest is in running a supply business and in being able to answer you properly; we judge that this is what you expect when you fill in an enquiry form, and it does not override your rights. You can object — see clause 08.
Performance of a contractWhere you go on to order from us, using your details to supply, deliver and invoice the order.
Legal obligationKeeping records we are required to keep, including for tax and for the certification and traceability of what we supply.

We do not rely on consent for anything on this website, because we do not do anything on it that needs consent — no marketing list, no profiling, no advertising trackers and no non-essential cookies.

We do not sell your information, we do not share it for anybody else's marketing, and we do not add you to a mailing list because you asked us a question.

Cookies — this website does not set any

This website sets no cookies. There is no analytics, no advertising pixel, no social media tracker and nothing stored in your browser to recognise you later. That is why there is no cookie banner: there is nothing to ask you about.

Because nothing is stored on your side, we cannot tell a returning visitor from a new one, we do not know what you looked at before you filled the form in, and we have no record of your visit at all unless you send us something.

Some pages do fetch things from other companies' servers as they load, and those companies see your internet address in the process in the ordinary way that any request shows where it came from. Clause 06 names every one of them. None of them sets a cookie here.

Your internet address is not stored

The chat panel and the photo estimate are limited to a sensible number of goes per visitor, so that one person cannot run up the bill or flood us with nonsense. To do that the system has to be able to tell one visitor from another.

It does it without keeping who you are. Your internet address is put through a one-way cryptographic function together with an identifier for this website, and only the result of that is kept — a fixed string of characters that cannot be turned back into your address. It counts your goes and does nothing else. Nothing in our records says where anybody came from.

Who else handles it, and where

We use other companies to build and run this website and to get your enquiry to us. They act on our instructions, under contract, and may not use your information for their own purposes. This is the complete list, and what each one does:

Every company involved in this website
WhoWhat they doWhere
Mediatopia Solutions LtdBuilds and runs this website for us, and holds the enquiries we receive through itUnited Kingdom
Vercel Inc.Serves the website's pagesUSA, with servers in the EU/UK region
SupabaseThe database and the file store behind the site, where enquiries and documents are keptEU region
Twilio SendGridSends the email that brings your enquiry to us, and your confirmation to youUSA
OpenAIProvides the language model behind the chat panel, and the one that reads the photograph in the photo estimate. What you type, and the photograph, are sent to them to be processed and are not used to train their modelsUSA
GoogleServes the two typefaces the site uses. Google sees your internet address when the fonts loadUSA
Cloudflare and OpenStreetMapOnly on the pages with a map, and only once the map loads: Cloudflare serves the mapping software and OpenStreetMap the map tiles USA / Europe
Postcodes.ioLooks up the postcode you type into the delivery checker. It receives the postcode and nothing elseUnited Kingdom

We will also pass your information on where we have to: to our professional advisers, to an insurer in connection with a claim, or to a public authority, a regulator or a court where the law requires it.

Transfers outside the United Kingdom

Some of the companies above are based outside the UK, as the table says. Where your information goes outside the UK it is protected either because the country has been judged by the UK government to give adequate protection, or by the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum in our contract with that company. You may ask us for details of the protection that applies to a particular transfer.

How long we keep it

We keep an enquiry while we are dealing with it and then for as long as it is useful to have a record of what was asked and what we quoted — a customer who rings back about a job we priced eighteen months ago should not have to start again.

An enquiry that did not become an orderTwo years from the last contact, then deleted
An enquiry that became an orderSix years from the end of our dealings with you, which is the period the Limitation Act 1980 allows for a claim on a contract and the period for which business records must be kept for tax
Chat conversationsTwo years, unless the conversation became an enquiry, in which case it is kept with it
A photograph sent with an enquiryWith the enquiry it was sent with. A photograph used only for an estimate you did not send is never stored
Certification and traceability records for material suppliedAs long as the relevant standard and our ISO procedures require

At the end of the period the record is deleted. Where we need to keep something longer because of a dispute or a legal obligation, we keep only what is needed for that.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • be told what we hold about you and get a copy of it;
  • have it corrected if it is wrong or incomplete;
  • have it deleted, where we no longer need it for the purpose we collected it for and no legal obligation requires us to keep it;
  • restrict what we do with it while a question about it is being sorted out;
  • object to our using it where we rely on legitimate interests, as we do for answering enquiries;
  • have it sent to you or to somebody else in a portable form, where we hold it on the basis of a contract.

Ask us using the details in clause 01. We will answer within one month, and we will not charge you. We may need to check who you are first, so that we do not hand your information to somebody else.

Nothing here is decided by a machine

The photo estimate and the chat panel use artificial intelligence to read a photograph and to hold a conversation. Neither decides anything. A photograph is sized against our own published figures, the mix is looked up from our own guidance table rather than suggested by the model, and every order and every price is confirmed by a person here before anything happens. There is no automated decision-making and no profiling on this website.

If you are not happy with how we have handled it

Please tell us first, so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, which regulates data protection in the UK: Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF, telephone 0303 123 1113, or at ico.org.uk. Complaining to us first does not affect that right.

Children

This website is aimed at builders, contractors, merchants, farmers, local authorities and householders arranging work. It is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information about anybody under 18. A quarry is not a place for children, and neither the chat nor the photo estimate should be used by one.

Changes to this policy

If we change how this website handles your information — if it ever starts setting a cookie, uses a measurement tool, or involves a company not in the table in clause 06 — we will change this page and the date at the foot of it before that happens.
